who is composite bonding suitable for?

Composite bonding is a versatile cosmetic dental treatment for patients who want to make subtle improvements to the appearance of their teeth without extensive dental work.

It may be suitable for:

  • Repairing chipped or slightly fractured teeth
  • Improving uneven or irregular tooth shapes
  • Closing small gaps between teeth
  • Restoring worn tooth edges
  • Concealing certain areas of discolouration

Composite bonding can often be completed in a single appointment and usually requires little or no removal of healthy tooth structure.

However, it is not suitable for everyone. Your dentist will assess your teeth, gums and bite before recommending treatment. In some cases, orthodontics, whitening or porcelain veneers may be more appropriate.

Everything You Need to Know About Composite Bonding

How does composite bonding work?

How Does Composite Bonding Work?

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive cosmetic dental treatment that uses tooth-coloured composite resin to improve the shape and appearance of your teeth.

1. Consultation and assessment

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite, discusses your goals and determines whether composite bonding is suitable.

2. Shade selection and preparation

A composite resin shade is selected to complement your natural teeth. Little or no removal of healthy tooth structure is usually required.

3. Application and shaping

The resin is applied directly to the tooth, carefully shaped and hardened using a curing light.

4. Finishing and polishing

Your dentist adjusts and polishes the composite to achieve a smooth, natural-looking finish.

How long does composite bonding last?

Composite bonding can often last approximately 5–10 years, although this varies depending on your bite, oral hygiene and lifestyle. Occasional polishing, repairs or replacement may be necessary.
